The confirmed two-year agreement draws him level with Max Verstappen as the highest earner on the grid, allowing Hamilton to continue his pursuit of a record eighth crown. Mercedes also confirmed 25-year-old George Russell&#8217;s stay for another two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> &#8220;I have had such an incredible journey with Mercedes, and we still have unfinished business,&#8221; said Hamilton with <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.sports.yahoo.com\/news\/lewis-hamilton-unfinished-business-signing-162927170.html\">Yahoo Sports<\/a>. &#8220;We want to get back to the top, and back to fighting for world championships.&#8221; Hamilton added he can still compete at a high level at his age, citing NFL star Tom Brady, who retired at 45, as a role model for him. We have learnt from every success but also every setback&#8221;. Not only will Hamilton continue to race for Mercedes, but he will also have the opportunity to continue his pursuit of an eighth crown. With a record 103 wins and six of his seven championships secured with Mercedes, it&#8217;s clear that the team sees the value in keeping the talented Briton around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hamilton is also staying alongside the young, talented George Russell, who is confirmed to remain with Mercedes for at least two more years. Surely, the Hamilton-Russell partnership is a force to be reckoned with, which is why the team wouldn&#8217;t want to risk breaking it up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the longevity of his career, Hamilton still has a lot of gas left in his tank. His physical and mental fortitude have surprised not only him but also the F1 world. He pointed to NFL star Tom Brady and F1 veteran Fernando Alonso as examples of athletes who were able to compete at the highest level well into their forties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, of course, Hamilton&#8217;s focus remains on the present and future. He&#8217;s not interested in seeking revenge or redemption from his losing streak of 36 races as he puts it in a report by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skysports.com\/f1\/news\/12433\/12951332\/lewis-hamilton-says-signing-new-mercedes-contract-not-about-revenge-for-2021-f1-world-championship-defeat\">Sky Sports<\/a>. Instead, he&#8217;s focused on getting back to the top, fighting for world championships, and winning more races with Mercedes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While it&#8217;s clear that they have their work cut out for them, Hamilton is hopeful that together they can challenge for championship titles soon. After all, he&#8217;s not getting any younger, and each year counts.
